Screechers like Alanis Morissette have come after her and prospered, but Ms. Lauper, whose visual style pre-dated Madonna, exercises those lungs and shows she still has the power. This is a mature, jazzier, thoughtful return for the lovely Lauper, who still gives us the odd scream.
